The Special Project Build-Off is a contest held on the BYT Forum and all BYT Forum members are welcome to participate. The build theme varies each time and it challenges forum members to build a unique project, competing against other forum members. Once the time frame for the build has elapsed, forum members vote on their favorite project and we post up the projects here. January 2009 - Special Project Build "Land & Water". Build-Off Guidelines 1. Vehicle must be built as a dual-purpose model. It mus be able to operate on land and on or in water. 2. Vehicle must be able to come to a complete stop when operating in/on the water. IE "hydroplaning" (defined as skimming along the water's surface without directional/momentum control) does not count. 3. You have until January 25th to build, at which point you will submit a picture of your model to NickRummy, who will post a voting thread and the board will vote to decide who won the buildoff. 4. All entrants must initiate a build thread. Title of the build thread should simply be your username. Inside the thread you can call the project whatever you like. This will keep things easy to read in the main forum. 5. Vehicle must be able to transfer from land to water without physical contact from the individual controlling the vehicle. Your vehicle may reconfigure using directions provided through the transmitter (IE servos, actuators of some kind). 6. You vehicle must be operational at the time you submit your photo on January 25th. 7. Have fun!! There's nothing at stake here. This is just about being creative and having a good time. |

What was done was a Hull from an old toy was used for
the bottom with some modification to the deck. Motors, ESC/reciever and
batteries were hot glued to the hull from some old RC that I once had.
The little lego guy was added as a joke, didn't know that people would
actually like it. Wheels and foam tires were added for land running though it actually could run without them and the hull was a strong plastic that could float on water and run up to 15mph with the dual motors. Both batteries are I think 5 Cell micro packs and have 350mAh but they came with the original vehicle. ......oh and it actually could drift and jump and handled 6 inch powder snow well..until it sank down
