This transmission shaft is super lightweight!!!! Anything you can do to lighten the drivetrain load is a plus. It should add to battery life and performance at the drive wheels.

The shaft is easy to install and requires the transmission to be removed from the truck. Once you have the stock shaft and the new shaft in your hands, it is easy to feel the weight difference. The quality of the aluminum shaft is good. We found some slight imperfections with the gear itself and had to take a little time smoothing the surface of the gear teeth. Not a big deal but for $30, we felt the gear should have been in better condition. After the gear prep, the shaft fit perfectly into the transmission and reassembly is a snap. While you have the trans apart, it is a good idea to give it a good cleaning and reapply a small amount of grease to the gear mesh.

Now for the fun part, time to hit the dirt. Without timing laps on a controlled track, it would be hard to quantify the improvement in performance. Again, the noticeable weight difference is enough to tell you that it is an improvement. Truth be told, we could not notice a difference in the performance of the truck on the BYT bashing track.

With that said, it is our feeling that this modification is for the racer or the RC fanatic that just likes to say he "has it all". For the backyard basher, you can probably find a better place to spend your $30.
