With the wide variety of hot motors and batteries out for the Mini-T, the drive train is sure to suffer. Luckily the little dude has a pretty simple drive line, a spur/slipper, a transmission, a differential and finally axles to the drive wheels. Simple is good as that means fewer parts to upgrade and less cash out of pocket! The stock diff in the Mini-T features some super light duty plastic gears, also known as a grenade with the pin pulled; especially if you are going to channel some more RPM’s through your M-T.
Whether you are slamming a Mamba in your Mini-T or just slamming around
the backyard, a diff upgrade is a great idea. Keep it simple. Get an
adjustable, pre-built unit that can handle anything you can toss at
it. The Racer’s
Edge differential is up to the job. Tip for longer Mini-T drive train life: Let the slipper do its job! Do not adjust your slipper so that it is cranked down tight (we know you have done this so your Mini-T will wheelie but you are killing your drive train)! If you crank the slipper down tight, that puts extra stress on the differential and the entire drive train. The differential is not made to do the same job as a slipper!! The job of the differential is to distribute power in-between the rear drive wheels, assist in overall traction and allow for a smaller turning radius. The slipper helps protect your drive system from sudden shock loads during events like take-off. It also allows for some "slip" between the motor and spur gear to prevent excessive rear tire spin and that can mean faster and more straight launches in the loose stuff. The amount of "slip" at the slipper is adjustable...check your manual for details. |
